OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 16, 2020) –
Kara Johnson, a former volleyball player at Harding (Ark.), now is serving as an assistant coach for Oklahoma Christian's revived program, head coach
Barry Wheeler said Sunday.
Johnson played for Harding in 1989 and 1990 before transferring to Mississippi, where she finished her bachelor's degree in social work in 1991. In recent years, she has served as a coach for the Legacy and OKC Knights homeschool volleyball programs. She served as a volleyball coordinator for OKC Knights for six years and for the Trinity Volleyball Club for one year.
Johnson has been married to Craig Johnson, a math professor at OC, and they have four children – daughters Hannah, Sarah and Abigail and son Caleb.
"I'm very thankful to have Kara join the volleyball family," Wheeler said. "Kara has a degree in social work that will be very helpful in mentoring these young ladies. She will be extremely helpful on the administrative side and with our leadership program. She will organize our trips, team meetings, leadership meetings and recruiting schedule. Her gift of organizing will free me up for volleyball-specific duties."
