OKLAHOMA CITY (March 13, 2020) – Former Oklahoma Christian men's basketball player Jerry Walker will be a part of the 2020 induction class into the Oklahoma Coaches Association's Hall of Fame.

In the OCA Hall of Fame, Walker will join his former coach at OC, Dan Hays, who was inducted in 2018. Walker previously has been inducted into the Halls of Fame of both the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association and the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association.

Walker spent 26 seasons coaching at his prep alma mater, Fort Gibson High School in eastern Oklahoma, before retiring in 2017. In 28 seasons as a head coach at Oktaha and Fort Gibson, he posted a 518-94 record that included three state championships and five runner-up finishes with the Tigers.

Among the players he coached at Fort Gibson was former OC player Ali Christie.

Walker also coached softball at Fort Gibson, with a 473-242 record in slow-pitch and a 237-90 mark in fast-pitch. His teams won one state title in each of those sports.

He played for OC during the 1983-84 and 1984-85 seasons – Hays' first two campaigns during what became a 33-year run leading the Eagles. Walker now is the principal at Porter High School, also in eastern Oklahoma.

"I've had a lot of people help me to achieve what I was able to achieve as a coach, from other coaches and staff, to kids who have played for me and a lot of fans and people from the community that encourage our kids and the support they give, so it's humbling," Walker told the Muskogee Phoenix.

"Any time you are recognized by peers state-wide in what includes all sports and you're recognized by coaches of all sports as well, that makes it special," he said. "But at the same time, being recognized by your peers among girls basketball coaches is pretty good too."
