OC softball again receives votes in NFCA poll

Kaitlyn Dennis and the Eagles received votes in this week's NFCA NCAA Division II poll.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian is back on the fringes of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's NCAA Division II softball poll, as the Eagles received votes but didn't crack the top 25 in the list released Wednesday morning.

OC received 11 points in the voting of 16 coaches – two from each of eight Division II regions – to finish 30th. The Eagles were one of a whopping seven Lone Star Conference teams to receive votes, along with No. 3 Texas-Tyler, No. 8 Angelo State (Texas), No. 16 Texas A&M-Commerce, No. 19 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 22 Lubbock Christian (Texas) and No. 23 Tarleton State (Texas).

The Eagles received votes in the NFCA preseason poll but did not in the first NFCA poll of the season, despite a 12-3 start that included three dominant wins over teams that made last year's NCAA tournament field.

OC went 3-0 last week, including a 6-5 win over then-No. 22 Rogers State that improved the Eagles' record to 15-3. Despite that loss, Rogers State jumped seven spots to No. 15 this week.

Since OC began competing at the Division II level in 2013, the Eagles never have cracked the top 25 in the NFCA poll, although OC also received votes in three polls last season, including the one at season's end.

OC will have an opportunity this week to again state its case to be in the top 25, as the Eagles will host Angelo State in a doubleheader on Friday and Lubbock Christian in a doubleheader on Sunday.
