Parmer Jr. named as Eagle of the Week for 3rd time

OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 5, 2020) – A standout performance capped by overtime heroics in a road win earned Oklahoma Christian basketball player Dedrian Parmer Jr. recognition Sunday as the Eagle of the Week for the third time during the 2019-20 academic year.

Parmer Jr., a 6-foot-6 senior forward from Oklahoma City, poured in 27 points to go with nine rebounds as OC won 70-60 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's (Texas), the Eagles' first win on the road against the Rattlers in seven games in San Antonio.

He hit two free throws with 1:20 left in regulation to tie the game at 55-55, and after the Eagles stymied the Rattlers' chance to win the game in regulation, Parmer Jr. took over, scoring OC's first seven points of overtime.

Parmer Jr. – who drew a whopping 11 fouls – split a pair of free throws to put the Eagles ahead for good at 56-55 with 4:18 left. He hit a pair with 3:46 left and two more with 3:02 left to make it 60-57, then scored off an assist from Johnatan Reyes-Valdez with 2:11 left.

Parmer Jr. went 8 of 14 from the field and made 11 of 14 free throws, the latter key on a day when the Eagles otherwise struggled from the line. The 27 points were his second-highest total in an OC uniform.

On Thursday, he scored 10 points as the Eagles led No. 13/7 St. Edward's (Texas) at halftime in Austin, Texas, before falling 69-59. During the week, he increased his per-game scoring average to 17.3 points, seventh-best in the Lone Star Conference.

The Eagle of the Week award recognizes the top performer in OC athletics for the previous week. The honor is presented each week at least one OC athletic team is in competition.
