NORMAN, Okla. (Jan. 18, 2020) –
Payton Duesing won the 800 meters and three other Oklahoma Christian athletes posted top-three event finishes on Saturday in the Weilert Open, hosted by Central Oklahoma at the University of Oklahoma's Mosier Indoor Facility.
Duesing, a sophomore from Lantana, Texas, prevailed in a field of 26 runners in the 800, posting a time of 2:26.02, a full second ahead of the runner-up, Arizona Hummingbird of UCO. It was Duesing's first collegiate event win. Another OC sophomore,
Caroline Schwab, finished eighth with a time of 2:32.33.
Senior
Ivy Lobley of Dalhart, Texas, placed third in the 60-meter hurdles final in 9.50 seconds, two spots higher than she finished in the preliminary round, when she also posted a time of 9.50 seconds. Another senior, Jorydn Williams, also qualified for the final and finished 11
th in 10.86 seconds.
In the weight throw, senior
Destiny Grace of Rockwall, Texas, finished third with a top mark of 44 feet, 1¼ inches (13.44 meters), with freshman
Taelor Brown of Pawnee seventh at 40 feet, 6 inches (12.34 meters). Both also posted top-10 finishes (among 25 throwers) in the shot put, with Grace fifth at 37 feet, 8½ inches (11.49 meters) and Brown ninth at 34 feet, 11 inches (10.64 meters).
Sophomore
Kenya Bailey of Ponca City finished third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:00.89, while senior
Addy Clift – competing in her first collegiate track meet – was seventh among 14 runners in 11:41.69.
Senior
Rylee Rich of Marlow placed 13th among 30 runners in the mile in 5:55.57.
The Eagles' next meet will be the Wendy's/Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan., on Feb. 1.
