OKLAHOMA CITY (July 5, 2019) – Brianna Robinson, a two-time junior-college All-America softball player for Butler (Kan.) Community College, has signed to continue her collegiate career at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach
Shanon Hays said Friday.
Robinson, a first baseman and pitcher from Henderson, Texas, originally signed with NCAA Division I Alabama State before opting to play in junior college at Butler.
As a freshman, she hit .483 with 24 home runs, 89 RBIs, 55 runs, a .560 on-base percentage and a 1.040 slugging percentage and went 2-0 with a 3.32 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings in the circle. Butler went 53-6 and finished third in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I tournament.
During her sophomore season, she hit .436 with 18 homers, 77 RBIs, 52 runs scored, a .520 on-base percentage and an .840 slugging percentage while going 4-0 with a 3.10 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings in the circle. The Grizzlies finished 43-8 and made another national-tournament appearance.
Robinson received NJCAA All-America second-team recognition after both seasons.
She joined the OC program the day after another junior-college slugger, Kaitlyn Dennis, signed with the Eagles.
"We are really excited to be adding two prolific hitters to our program. Both Kate and Brianna had phenomenal careers in the JC ranks," Hays said. "They both will add a lot of pop to our offense. Both were All-Americans who came from great programs.
"Brianna was also a national leader in the power stats and hit for a very high average. She is a two-way player who can pitch and play first, which is always a bonus. Any time you can get a kid who hit 42 homers from a great program like Butler you have to feel good! She loves to play the game and going to a Christian school was big for her and Kate Dennis as well. I'm very happy to add these two girls to an already talented group!"
Robinson will join a team coming off a 40-16 season that included the Heartland Conference regular-season and postseason titles and a run to the championship round of a NCAA Division II regional tournament. OC will move into the powerful Lone Star Conference for the 2020 season.
