Jonathan Olsson won the javelin and hammer and
Ian Colbert,
Jelte van Atten and
Javier Hernandez each posted an event win on Saturday in Southwestern Christian's Paul Parent Invitational at Miller Stadium.
Olsson, from Emporia, Kan., recorded his second win in three career meets in the javelin with a throw of 162 feet, 4 inches (49.49 meters), and had a season-best hammer throw of 125 feet, 1 inch (38.13) to take top honors in that event.
Colbert, a sophomore from Frisco, Texas, topped a field of 11 in the 400 meters with a time of 48.81 seconds, while van Atten, a freshmen from Leiden, Netherlands, emerged atop a field of 14 in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.01, edging runner-up Zachery Wells of East Central (2:00.50) and teammate
Reid Little (2:00.54), a freshman from Amarillo, Texas.
Hernandez, a sophomore from Allentown, Pa., led a 1-2 OC finish in the 400-meter hurdles. He posted a time of 55.64 seconds, with freshman
Logan Hughes of Midwest City second in 58.29 seconds.
Freshman
Verrell McBride of Norman posted two runner-up finishes in the 100 meters (10.62 seconds) and 200 meters (21.52 seconds). One spot behind McBride in the 200 was OC assistant coach
Landon Huslig (who ran unattached) in 21.83 seconds.
Competing in his first collegiate meet, OC freshman
Jaxon Chantrill of Bronte, Texas, was the runner-up in both the javelin (145 feet, 8 inches, or 44.41 meters) and the high jump (6 feet or 1.83 meters).
In the triple jump, OC sophomore
Joseph Owens of Mobile, Ala., was second with a mark of 44 feet, 5½ inches (13.55 meters), while sophomore
Johnathan Tucker of Ellenwood, Ga., was third in 44 feet, ¾ inch (13.43 meters). Tucker also took third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 10½ inches (6.36 meters).
Junior
Kelton Reynolds of Abilene, Texas, led OC's five-man contingent in the 5,000 meters, finishing fourth among 11 runners in 16:02.67. Placing fifth was sophomore
Chase Cate of Fremont, Neb., in 16:08.10.
The Eagles' next meet will be the K.T. Woodman Classic, hosted by Wichita State in Wichita, Kan., on Friday and Saturday.
