Lienhard takes Division II rebounding title

OC senior Will Lienhard was the top rebounder in NCAA Division II this season.
INDIANAPOLIS (April 11, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian center Will Lienhard was the rebounding king in NCAA Division II men's basketball this season, a status made official with the finalization of the NCAA statistical report on Thursday.

Lienhard, a 6-foot-8 senior from Oklahoma City, averaged 12.7 rebounds per game this season to hold off Hasan Varence of Ohio Dominican for the individual Division II statistical title, the first ever won by an OC men's player. Varence averaged 12.5 rebounds per game and both men were well ahead of third-place Kendarius Ash of Lane (Tenn.) at 11.7 per game.

With 368 rebounds in 29 games, Lienhard also finished second in Division II in overall rebounds, behind only Shaun Willett of Queens (N.C.), who had 417 in 36 games for a team that reached the Elite Eight. Lienhard finished third in offensive rebounds per game at 4.38, with 127 this season.

Lienhard had three of Division II's top 14 individual rebounding games this season, recording 21 rebounds three times – against Texas A&M-Commerce in the season opener on Nov. 9, against Southwestern Christian on Dec. 15 and in the Eagles' biggest win of the season, an 84-80 upset of then-No. 2-ranked St. Edward's (Texas) on Feb. 7.

He reached double figures in rebounds 23 times this season.

Lienhard, the Heartland Conference's co-defensive player of the year, also ranked ninth in Division II in both blocked shots per game at 2.48 and in total blocked shots with 72.
