TULSA, Okla. (March 30, 2019) –
Verrell McBride narrowly missed a win in the 100 meters and six other Oklahoma Christian competitors scored team points on Saturday in the Oral Roberts Invitational at Oneok Sports Complex.
McBride, a freshman from Norman, finished second in the 100 in 10.62 seconds, just .01 of a second behind Zavier Johnson of Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College. OC sophomore
Andre Norman of Celina, Texas, also scored team points in the race, placing seventh in the 24-man field in 10.95 seconds.
McBride added a seventh-place finish (among 32 runners) in the 200 meters with a time of 21.68 seconds.

Javier Hernandez of Allentown, Pa., won his heat race in the 400-meter hurdles and placed fifth overall among 11 competitors in 55.40 seconds.
Two 800-meter runners scored points for OC, freshmen
Jelte van Atten of Leiden, Netherlands, and
Reid Little of Amarillo, Texas. The pair ran 1-2 in their heat race, with van Atten seventh overall (among 24 runners) in 1:59.16 and Little eighth in 1:59.69.

Kelton Reynolds of Abilene, Texas, placed third among five competitors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:47.06.
The Eagles' top field-event performer Saturday was sophomore
Joseph Owens of Mobile, Ala., who placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 1¾ inches (13.76 meters).
The Eagles had 30 points as a team, placing ninth among the 10 teams that scored. Four of the teams that finished ahead of OC compete in NCAA Division I and the Eagles beat one Division I squad, Oklahoma State.
OC's next meet will be the Parent-McGrady Invitational, to be hosted next Friday and Saturday by Southwestern Christian at Yukon High School's Miller Stadium.
