PITTSBURG, Kan. (Feb. 8, 2019) –
Javier Hernandez and
Verrell McBride won heat races for Oklahoma Christian on Friday during the annual Indoor Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pittsburg State at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Hernandez, a sophomore from Allentown, Pa., placed sixth overall among 33 competitors in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:12.92, a career-best for that event.
McBride, a freshman from Norman, took a 200-meter heat and finished 22nd among 82 runners in 22.01 seconds, his best as a collegiate runner. He also finished 33rd in the 60 meters in 7.10 seconds, with teammate
Joseph Owens, a sophomore from Mobile, Ala., 10th in a personal-best time of 7.00 seconds.
OC sophomore
Colton Meyers of Allen, Texas, finished 30th out of 71 runners in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:16.24 – his personal best by more than 52 seconds – while senior
Trevor Talley of Washington, Okla., was 35th in 15:27.75. That also was a personal-best time.
The meet will continue on Saturday.
