Upton named as Eagle of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 3, 2019) – A power-hitting display to open her final season of collegiate softball earned Oklahoma Christian's Kaylie Upton recognition Sunday as the Eagle of the Week.

Upton, a senior pitcher-first baseman from Pauls Valley, had perhaps the finest two-day stretch of her career in the TAJ Hospitality College Softball Kickoff in Lubbock, Texas, as OC posted dominating wins over Western New Mexico (6-1), Chadron State (7-1), Midwestern State (11-3) and Texas-Permian Basin (15-1).

On Saturday, in the latter two wins, Upton – who hit two home runs all last season – smashed four homers and drove in 10 runs to give her a 1.900 slugging percentage for the week. She hit .600 for the week with a double, the four homers and 11 RBIs as OC began the season 4-0 for the first time since 2015.

Upton also contributed to a combined no-hitter (with fellow senior Madison Hagood) by pitching the first two innings of the win against UTPB, and picked up the pitching win with a five-inning stint against Western New Mexico.

The Eagle of the Week award recognizes the top performer in OC athletics for the previous week. The honor is presented each week at least one OC athletic team is in competition.
