All-State catcher Walde signs with OC softball program

Westmoore High School catcher Whitney Walde has signed to play softball at OC.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 14, 2019) – Whitney Walde, a catcher who earned All-State honors as a senior this fall at Westmoore High School, has signed to play softball at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach Shanon Hays said Thursday.

Walde led Westmoore to a 30-9 record and a berth in the Class 6A tournament this fall, hitting .456 with 15 RBIs and a .534 on-base percentage. She received All-State honors from the Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association as well as All-Region, All-District and All-Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference recognition.

As a junior, she received honorable mention on The Oklahoman's All-City team and would seem a lock to again make the All-City list for 2019.

"Whitney is a kid that we targeted the first week in the job last year," Hays said. "She is super behind the plate and has the ability to play multiple positions. She swings it from the left side and wears out the gaps. As she gets stronger, she will just keep getting better and better.

"I think she is a student-athlete that can be a key program addition that can make an impact for four years. I'm very happy to have such a great person like Whit!"

She joins Tara Stewart of Ovilla, Texas, as part of the Eagles' signing class for the 2020-21 academic year. More signings will be announced in the coming days, Hays said.
