Box Score 2 LAREDO, Texas (March 16, 2018) – Oklahoma Christian managed only 12 hits and two runs while dropping both games in a softball doubleheader on Friday at Texas A&M International.
TAMIU pitcher Delainy Thompson blanked the Lady Eagles on four hits as the Dustdevils took the opener 3-0, and TAMIU scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the second game 3-2 at Dustdevil Field.
TAMIU (12-21, 9-6 Heartland Conference) has won three of four games this season against OC (14-15, 5-7), with a single game left between the teams on Saturday. The two losses dropped the Lady Eagles into fifth place in the league standings.
In the opener, Melanie Gamboa's RBI single in the third inning put TAMIU ahead and Maya Paul hit a two-run homer in the fifth off OC starter
Madison Hagood. Meanwhile, Thompson (5-8) allowed only two OC baserunners to advance as far as third base.
Sheridan Fuller was thrown out at home in the bottom of the first inning of the second game, the closest the Lady Eagles came to scoring against TAMIU starter Sara Caterson in her five innings of work.
TAMIU went ahead 2-0 in the fourth, taking advantage of consecutive walks, a wild pitch and a RBI single by Samantha Edmiston. OC finally broke through in the sixth against reliever Melanie Lint (5-6) with a two-run single by
Madison Nordyke that scored
Jessica Killer and
Hunter Strickland.
But the Dustdevils answered in the seventh, as Caterson drew an eight-pitch walk to start the inning and Hagood (3-8) hit Robi Kami with a pitch before Brandi Giles' single scored pinch-runner Krystal Perez with the winning run.
