Box Score 2 DENTON, Texas (Feb. 15, 2017) – It took 10 innings for Oklahoma Christian to get its bats going on Wednesday at Texas Woman's, but when they did, the Lady Eagles looked impressive.
OC sent 11 batters to the plate during a six-run third-inning outburst and cruised to an 8-0, six-inning run-rule win over the Pioneers in the second game of a doubleheader at Pioneer Field. Texas Woman's took the first game 1-0 despite a three-hitter by OC pitcher
Madison Hagood.
OC (7-5) now has won two of three games against traditionally strong Texas Woman's (8-5), having won a neutral-site game last week in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Hagood (3-2) and Abby Walker (5-1) engaged in a classic pitchers' duel in the first game, as Walker allowed the Lady Eagles only two hits. OC didn't advance a runner past second base.
The Pioneers scored the game's only run in the bottom of the first inning, when Nicole Nordie walked to lead off, stole second base and came around on two OC errors.
Texas Woman's loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning of the second game, but OC pitcher
Madison Nordyke (3-2) escaped the jam without any damage thanks to an infield popup and two ground balls. Nordyke allowed only three hits in six innings before giving way to Hagood in the seventh.
OC jumped on Texas Woman's starter Tori Bice (1-4) in the third. The Lady Eagles loaded the bases on a walk to
Kaylie Upton and singles by
Sheridan Bond and Nordyke.
Haley Squier reached on an error, allowing Upton to score, and
Niki Davidson followed with a clean single to left field to score Bond.
Two outs later, it still was 2-0 but sophomore
Kayla Eichler delivered a two-run single to center field and
Caitlin Young and Upton added run-scoring singles to put OC up 6-0.
The Lady Eagles added two runs in the sixth, on a RBI double by Davidson and a groundout by
Bridget White that scored Squier.
Trying to avoid being run-ruled, the Pioneers had runners at second and third base with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but Hagood struck out Chelsie McClure and coaxed a ground ball back to the pitcher from Alexis Elizonda to end the game.
OC will be off until Tuesday, when the Lady Eagles will visit another Lone Star Conference foe, Midwestern State (Texas), for a doubleheader. OC's home opener will be Feb. 25 against Central Oklahoma.
