Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. (April 15, 2016) – Oklahoma Christian pounded out 16 hits on Friday as the Eagles cruised to an 11-1, seven-inning win over Oklahoma Panhandle State at Aggie Field, completing a sweep of the teams' three-game Heartland Conference baseball series.
OC (24-15, 13-5 Heartland) has won eight straight games, including consecutive sweeps of road conference series. The Eagles stayed in third place in the Heartland Conference standings, pending the results of games involving St. Edward's (Texas) and Lubbock Christian (Texas), scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
Against Panhandle State (5-35, 1-17), OC catcher
Austin Orth went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and five other Eagles –
Alex Polston,
Derek Jones,
Robert Rosser,
Kyle Lacy and
Ben McKenzie – had two hits each. OC seized control with a four-run second inning and pulled away with a five-run fifth.
Meanwhile, the Eagles received a solid pitching performance from senior right-hander
Bradley Horn (5-3), who allowed four hits and one run and struck out five batters in six innings before reliever
Dylon Sturges recorded a 1-2-3 seventh inning against the Aggies.
Brady Baugh, Orth, Polston and Jones each had an RBI single in the second inning against Panhandle State starter Logan Litton (0-2). In the fifth,
Jake Baxter drew a bases-loaded walk, Lacy had a two-run single to right-center field and Orth completed the outburst with a RBI single to left field.
Jones hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, his second homer of the series, and drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to complete OC's scoring.
OC, which has played only one home game since April 2, will be on the road for four more games next week. The Eagles will visit nonconference foe Cameron on Tuesday, then head to San Antonio for a crucial three-game Heartland series at longtime power St. Mary's (Texas) on Friday and Saturday.
