Box Score ODESSA, Texas (Jan. 11, 2016) – When one player on the opposing team has as many 3-pointers as your basketball team, it's usually not a good thing. It certainly wasn't for Oklahoma Christian on Monday night.
Former Providence player Johnnie Lacy went 6-of-13 from 3-point range and scored 24 points to lift Texas-Permian Basin past the Eagles 83-68 at the Falcon Dome.
John Moon led OC (4-10, 1-5 Heartland Conference) with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot. The Eagles kept the margin against UTPB (7-7, 2-4) within single digits for much of the game and were within striking distance at 66-56 with seven minutes left, but consecutive 3-pointers by Josh Williams pushed the Falcons' lead to 16 points and OC couldn't mount another challenge.
OC led by as many as four points in the opening minutes and didn't trail until the 11:31 mark of the first half, when UTPB's Malcolm Hill-Bey put the Falcons up 14-12. UTPB – which shot 52.5 percent (31 of 59) from the field – never trailed again, but the Eagles didn't let them become too comfortable.
A 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer by OC's
Zach Norris pulled the Eagles within 41-34. Another 3-pointer, by
Elijah Strickland, cut the Falcons' lead to 47-43 with 16:29 left. But Lacy keyed a 6-1 spurt by UTPB with a 3-pointer that pushed the advantage back to nine points and the Eagles came no closer than six points the rest of the way.
Strickland scored 12 points for OC while Norris added a career-high 11. Codye Hatcher had 14 points for the Falcons and Gary Akbar added 11.
OC's five-game road stretch will continue Thursday, when the Eagles visit Newman (Kan.).
