After 40-year drought, Eagles sweep OCU for 2nd straight season

OC starter Jared Price threw five shutout innings to pick up the win against Oklahoma City University.
Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (April 7, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian hadn't swept longtime rival Oklahoma City University in a season baseball series in 40 years before doing so in 2014. Now the Eagles have done it twice in as many years.

Kolton Brown hit his third home run in two days and Kyle Lacy added another longball and picked up the pitching save as OC beat the NAIA's No. 4-ranked team 6-3 on Tuesday night at OCU's Jim Wade Field.

OC (21-14) also beat OCU (30-9) by a 7-6 count last Tuesday at home at Dobson Field. The programs were longtime rivals in the Sooner Athletic Conference before OC left to begin the NCAA Division II membership process with the 2012-13 academic year.

Brown, who homered twice to lead the Eagles to a 5-1 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Monday, hit a two-run shot off OCU starter Skylar Janisse (2-4) in the second inning after Jackson Matthews had drawn a leadoff walk.

The Eagles added three more runs in the fifth, two on a double to left-center field by Ben McKenzie and another on a RBI single by Matthews.

OC starter Jared Price (4-1) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out five. OCU finally broke through in the sixth with consecutive two-out solo home runs by J.J. Bissell and Adam Clark, which pulled the Stars within 5-2.

The Eagles picked up an insurance run in the eighth on a solo home run by Lacy, who pitched the final three innings to earn his second save.  OCU did threaten in the ninth, scoring on a one-out double by Joe Lytle, but Lacy retired the Stars' final two batters on fly balls to end the game.

OC will return to action Friday, hosting Oklahoma Panhandle State in the first two games of what will be a three-game Heartland Conference series.
