Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (April 6, 2015) –
Kolton Brown,
Zac Cobble and
Brennan Walker were locked in on Monday afternoon and that was enough for Oklahoma Christian against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Brown homered twice, Cobble went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and Walker pitched seven strong innings to lead the Eagles to a 5-1 win at Dobson Field in a fast baseball game that lasted a minute shy of two hours.
OC (20-14) took two of three games this season from Southeastern (13-17), a longtime Oklahoma small-college power, first in the NAIA and now in NCAA Division II. The teams split a doubleheader in Durant on Feb. 10.
On Monday, Walker (3-0) allowed only five hits and struck out nine batters. He gave up his only run in the seventh inning on a solo home run by the Savage Storm's Collin Sefcik.
Dylon Sturges entered in the eighth for the Eagles and pitched two shutout innings to finish the game.
Brown took advantage of a strong wind blowing out toward left field, hitting a home run off Southeastern starter Dylan Linke (2-1) to lead off the third inning. In the second, Cobble singled and scored on a single by
Derek Jones to put OC up 2-0.
Brown came up in the sixth after
Ben McKenzie had doubled and sent a towering shot that hit high off the scoreboard that sits behind the left-field fence, putting OC up 4-0. Brown had entered the game with one home run on the season, also against Southeastern in one of the Feb. 10 games.
Sefcik's homer in the seventh pulled the Savage Storm within 4-1, but the Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning, as
Kyle Lacy doubled and scored on a single to right field by Jones.
OC will face another nonconference foe on Tuesday when the Eagles travel across town to Oklahoma City University for a 6 p.m. game. OC beat OCU 7-6 at Dobson Field last Tuesday.
