Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (March 21, 2015) – Two big innings, one keyed by back-to-back home runs by
Kelsie Finch and
Taylor Mosher, proved to be enough to give Oklahoma Christian a 10-4 win over Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday at
Tom Heath Field.
OC (12-12, 3-6 Heartland Conference) finished off its first league series sweep of the season after suffering a pair of sweeps early in the conference season. It was the first time the Lady Eagles had swept Texas-Permian Basin (5-22, 1-7) since OC joined the Heartland for the 2013 softball season.
The Falcons jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first. Mallory Hall and Miley McKee singled off OC starter
Madison Nordyke and with two outs, Adrianna Berzoza hit a three-run home run over the left-field wall.
Nordyke (3-3) settled down and allowed only one run the rest of the way while throwing her third complete game of the season and soon enough, the Lady Eagles' offense began percolating.
OC took advantage of two fielding errors by the Falcons in the bottom of the third en route to a five-run inning. The Lady Eagles scored two of those runs before recording their first hit of the game, a RBI double to left-center field by
Kendra Pierce that tied the game at 3-3.
Haley Squier's two-out single up the middle off UTPB reliever Holly Herrington (2-9) scored Nordyke and Pierce and put OC up 5-3.
Irene Valdez singled and scored on a single by McKee in the fifth to pull the Falcons within 5-4, but OC answered with another five-run inning in the sixth. Finch hit a three-run homer over the left-field wall, and Mosher followed with her first career homer, also over the left-field wall.
Niki Davidson later hit a run-scoring double to extend OC's lead to 10-4.
OC turned two double plays defensively, including one started by second baseman
Sheridan Bond to close the game.
The Lady Eagles will play another conference series on Monday and Tuesday, hosting Oklahoma Panhandle State. The unusual scheduling is the result of the series being postponed due to poor weather conditions in late February.
