Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY (March 20, 2015) – Mark down Friday afternoon as a career highlight for Oklahoma Christian third baseman
Cody Rosecrans.
The senior from Edmond had a key two-run double for the Eagles in an 8-5 win over Texas A&M International at Dobson Field, then capped the doubleheader with a solo home run and a walk-off RBI single to give OC a 2-1 decision over the Dustdevils.
OC (14-9, 4-4 Heartland Conference) will take a season-long five-game winning streak in the series finale against TAMIU (9-15, 1-7) on Saturday at noon.
The Eagles jumped ahead in the first inning of the opener, with
Ben McKenzie's double off TAMIU starter Jeremy Gonzalez (2-4) being the key blow in a three-run outburst.
Jackson Matthews' RBI single in the third made it 4-0.
OC starter
Dillon Endecott (3-1), the reigning Heartland and South Central Region pitcher of the week, struggled a bit in the fourth and fifth innings, giving up a combined six hits. The Dustdevils took a 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth after an RBI single by Daniel Cruz.
But the Eagles quickly answered in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded and two out, Rosecrans doubled off TAMIU reliever Armando Manrrique to score
Derek Jones and
Brady Baugh and put OC back ahead.
Chase Kuwitzky followed with a run-scoring double and Rosecrans scored on an error to make it 8-5.
Hard-throwing right-hander
Kolton Brown came on to relieve Endecott to open the sixth and recorded six straight outs to record his first save of the baseball season.
The second game was a pitchers' duel between a pair of left-handers, OC's
Kelby Reneau and TAMIU's Jared Curnel. Reneau allowed only five hits in 8 1/3 innings, while Curnel gave up only six hits in 7 1/3 innings.
Andrew Arteaga doubled and scored in the fourth for the Dustdevils, and they rode that lead until the eighth inning, when Rosecrans hit a leadoff home run to tie the game.
In the ninth,
Garett Hill (3-1) relieved Reneau and threw two pitches, coaxing a double-play grounder from Daniel Cruz. In the bottom of the inning, TAMIU reliever Marty Bigham (0-1) hit
Caden Cleveland with a pitch and
Austin Peck pinch-ran for Cleveland.
Brady Baugh walked, and with two outs, Rosecrans singled to left-center field to score Peck with the winning run.
