Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (March 17, 2015) – Early on, the Oklahoma Christian-Southern Nazarene matchup at Dobson Field on Tuesday afternoon had the feel of one of those games in which both teams might score in double digits.
But all of the scoring ended up being done in the first four innings and it was OC that did most of it, jumping to a six-run lead after two innings and cruising to a 7-3 win over the Crimson Storm.
OC (12-9) won its third straight game, all against in-state rivals – a run that includes a win over Rogers State on Saturday and another over East Central on Monday.
The Eagles scored three runs in the first inning against SNU (4-13) with a rally that didn't begin until there were two outs.
Derek Jones singled to center field and
Ben McKenzie followed with an RBI double to right field. After a walk and an error loaded the bases, catcher
Austin Orth hit a two-run single to left field.
OC scored three more runs in the second against SNU starter Thomas Schellhardt (0-1).
Zac Cobble's RBI single scored
Chase Kuwitzky, who had led off the inning with a single, one of his three hits in the game. Cobble later scored on an error and
Kyle Lacy (who had singled) came home on a groundout by McKenzie.
The Crimson Storm answered with a two-run third, keyed by a RBI double down the right-field line by Anthony Wiggins, who later scored. OC scored once in the bottom of the third, with Jones' single bringing home Cobble, who earlier had singled.
That made it 7-2. SNU managed one more run in the fourth, but OC relievers
Matt Brown,
Jesse Stephens, Lacy and
Luke Sandoval shut down the Crimson Storm the rest of the way. Brown (1-0), a senior from Stillwater, earned his first win in an OC uniform by allowing only one hit in two innings of work.
In addition to Kuwitzky, Jones also had three hits for OC.
The Eagles will host Heartland Conference rival Texas A&M International in a three-game series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at noon, followed by a single game on Saturday, also starting at noon.
