Box Score 2 LAREDO, Texas (March 12, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian's road frustrations continued on Thursday at the Heartland Conference's southernmost outpost.
The Lady Eagles again played well enough to win, but ended up on the losing side twice against Texas A&M International, falling 2-0 and 7-5 at Dustdevil Field.
OC (8-8, 0-5 Heartland) has lost seven of its last eight games – despite having a legitimate chance to win in every single one of those games. The Lady Eagles will have another chance to break through on the road Friday in the series finale at TAMIU (14-14, 7-1) – a game that will mark the end of a stretch of eight consecutive road contests.
In the opener, OC starter
Shea Coats (5-3) struck out eight and allowed just four hits in six innings, but one of those hits was a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth by Brenda Parnin. OC had seven hits against TAMIU pitcher Mariena Gallardo (5-4) – including two each by
Courtney Starr and
Madison Nordyke – but left 10 runners on base.
OC senior
Kendra Pierce, who extended her hitting streak to 16 games, went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the second game, and
Kelsie Finch added a solo home run for the Lady Eagles. But OC surrendered a pair of three-run innings to TAMIU, one in the first and one in the fifth.
The latter one put the Dustdevils (who finished with 11 hits) ahead 7-3. In the seventh,
Sheridan Bond doubled ahead of Pierce's home run for OC, but TAMIU pitcher Sarah Johnson (6-1) recovered to record the final two outs to finish her complete game.
Taylor Mosher (2-1) took the loss for OC.
