Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 10, 2015) – In a place that's notoriously difficult to win because of the caliber of opponent, Oklahoma Christian did so easily on Tuesday in the opener of a doubleheader at Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Behind a 17-hit attack led by
Cody Rosecrans,
Caden Cleveland,
Kolton Brown and
Kyle Lacy, OC rolled to a 16-3 win over the Savage Storm at The Ballpark in Durant. The Eagles looked on their way to a sweep before a nine-run fourth inning by Southeastern earned it an 11-5 win and a split.
In the first game, OC (1-2) scored in every at-bat but its first. Brown's solo home run in the first off Southeastern starter Nick Johnson (0-2) staked the Eagles to a 1-0 lead. Rosecrans tripled and scored on Lacy's home run in the third to make it 3-0.
In the fourth, a two-run double by Rosecrans keyed a five-run outburst that made it 8-1. Rosecrans' sacrifice fly in the fifth scored
Caden Cleveland to push the lead to 9-1. During a five-run sixth, Cleveland, Brown and
Carson James all delivered RBI singles. Rosecrans finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Every OC starter but one had at least one hit.
Meanwhile, senior left-hander
Kelby Reneau (1-0) was the beneficiary on the mound for the Eagles, allowing three hits and one (unearned) run in five innings.
Southeastern (4-3) took the second game on the strength of its big fourth inning against OC starter
Hunter Raley (0-1) and reliever
Brennan Walker. The Savage Storm had five hits in the inning – a two-run single by Dylan Helms, a two-run single by Greg Husnander and a two-run triple by Jacob Soisson.
OC led 4-1 before the outburst, on the strength of an RBI single by Brown in the second and a run-scoring triple by
Derek Jones and a two-run home run by
Ben McKenzie in the third off Southeastern starter Keyton Jameson (1-0).
The Eagles' home opener will be Friday at 1 p.m. against West Texas A&M.
