Box Score EDMOND, Okla. (Nov. 28, 2015) – For the second straight day, one of Oklahoma Christian's local rivals unleashed a 3-point barrage against the Eagles on Saturday. This time, they weren't able to withstand it.
Oklahoma City University went 13-of-20 from 3-point range (65 percent) and rallied from an early double-digit deficit to beat OC 83-70 in the Central Oklahoma Thanksgiving Classic at UCO's Hamilton Field House.
John Moon had 20 points and nine rebounds for OC (1-4), which shot a decent 48.9 percent from the field (23 of 47) but also committed 18 turnovers. Only one other OC player reached double figures in points –
Elijah Strickland, who had 11.
Meanwhile OCU (2-1) shot 50.9 percent from the field (29 of 57) and had five players score in double figures, led by Lou Dunbar, who poured in 23 points and went 7-of-11 from 3-point range. Three of Dunbar's treys came in quick succession during the Stars' decisive second-half run.
OC – coming off a rousing 92-91 win over archrival Southern Nazarene on Friday – jumped to a quick 15-4 lead, going up by double digits on a 3-pointer by Strickland at the 13:15 mark of the first half. The Eagles led by as many as 13 points, at 42-29 on a 3-pointer by
Deric Shelton 2:15 before halftime, and were ahead 46-38 at intermission.
OC led 54-50 after
Chiza Ntirata went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line with 14:45 left. Dunbar hit a 3-pointer for OCU, stole the ball from Ntirata and popped another 3-pointer to put the Stars ahead 56-54. After
Zach Norris went 1-of-2 from the line for OC, Dunbar hit a third straight 3-pointer.
Dunbar missed a 3-point try on OCU's next possession, but OCU's Evan White followed with a 3-pointer of his own to give the Stars a 62-55 lead with 11:42 left. Another 3-pointer by White with 10:36 left, put OCU up 67-56 and the Stars led by double digits the rest of the game.
White scored 12 points for OCU, while Terence Bonhomme had 11 and Andrew Akaji and Jonathan Reed scored 10 each for the Stars.
OC will return to action Tuesday, when the Eagles will host Dallas Christian (Texas).
