ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (March 30, 2013) –Josh Everett outdueled Oklahoma Christian's Brock Werdel and Chris Burgess in a classic pitchers' battle, leading Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) to a 2-0 win over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field.
Ouachita Baptist (15-16-1) completed a three-game series sweep of OC (18-15), extending the Eagles' losing streak to four games, their longest of the baseball season.
Werdel (3-2) allowed only five hits and struck out two in five innings and Burgess threw three hitless innings with three strikeouts for the Eagles, but Everett (1-6) went the distance, allowing six hits and striking out eight.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Parker Norris led off with a single to right field and Landon Flax followed with a single to right. Norris and Flax successfully pulled off a double steal and Norris scored on a groundout by Duncan Collins.
In the fifth inning, Norris led off with a single to left field, stole second, went to third on Flax's groundout and scored on Collins' single to center field. Norris finished 2-for-3 for the Tigers.
Jerry Owen, who went 2-for-4, was the only OC player to have more than one hit against Everett. The Eagles never advanced a runner past second base.
OC will be off until Tuesday, when the Eagles begin a two-game series at NCAA Division I Texas-Arlington, which is coached by OC alumnus Darin Thomas.
