Oklahoma Christian ended a five-game losing streak with a 76-69 comeback victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State here Saturday night to improve to 11-10 overall and 5-6 in SAC play.
The Eagles trailed for much of the first half after shooting 24 percent from the field. Northwestern rode a 12-3 run from the 7:34 to 3:28 mark to build a 36-25 halftime advantage.
In the second half, OC steadily chipped away at the lead and when Kyle Tefft hit a fade-away baseline jumper with the shot clock expiring, the Eagles pulled within one at 57-56 with 6:03 left.
OC responded with a stop on the defensive end after senior John Nottley pounced on a loose ball and fellow senior Keith Harris buried a three-pointer seconds later to give the Eagles their first lead of the second half at 59-57 with 5:24 on the clock.
The teams traded four leads and three ties in the game's closing minutes. Charles Baldwin, who scored 22 second-half points, drove baseline and scored off the glass with 2:25 remaining to tie the game at 66. The senior then put OC ahead for good with a three-pointer at the 1:46 mark.
Tefft converted 7-of-8 foul shots in the final 1:26 to secure the victory.
Baldwin finished with a game-high 28 points. Harris added 20 points and eight rebounds. Tefft, fresh off scoring a career-high 17 Thursday night at OBU, set a new career mark with 18 points on 14-of-18 shooting from the foul stripe.
Micah Miles added a game-high 10 rebounds and three blocks.
The win put OC and NWOSU in a tie for fifth place in the SAC standings, one game behind third-place Lubbock Christian (6-5) and a half-game behind fourth-place Oklahoma Baptist (5-5).
The Eagles will next the floor Thursday night at home against Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The men's game will tip at 8 p.m. after the 6 p.m. women's game.
