OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 8, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian used a 19-2 second-half run to power by No. 15 Texas Wesleyan for a 71-57 win on Homecoming Saturday.
OC was paced by NAIA All-American Jason Taylor, who netted 21 points and snagged six rebounds. The victory takes the Eagles to 2-0 on the season.
Texas Wesleyan (1-1) led by as many as seven points in the first half on Saturday. At the 12:56 point, TWU guard Chris Berry hit a jumper to give their Rams their largest lead at 18-11.
But OC outscored TWU 13-4 over the next six-plus minutes to take their first lead at the 9:16 mark. Chad Endres scored while being fouled, then rebounded his own missed free throw and scored to put the Eagles up 24-22 and OC didn't trail again.
The two-point lead held through the rest of the opening half and OC took a 32-30 lead to intermission.
The start of the second half was all OC, as the Eagles went on a 19-2 run to extend their lead into double digits. A pair of Taylor conventional three-point plays helped OC lead 42-32 by the 13:53 point.Â
Then baskets from Endres and Jon Jonsson came before Taylor drilled a three from the wing to make it a 49-32 lead with 11:57 to play.
OC assumed its largest lead of the game at the 8:06 mark with an Izea Lovejoy transition dunk to give the Eagles a 61-40 edge.
TWU outscored OC 23-15 from that point, but it wasn't enough as OC improved to 17-5 all time against the Rams.
Endres dropped a career-high 13 points in the win. The sophomore from Modesto, Calif., was 6-of-7 from the field. Jeff Crocker had another solid game, scoring 16 points and dishing out four assists.
The Eagles return to the Eagles' Nest on Monday night for an 8 p.m. game with Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.).
