SHAWNEE, Okla. (Feb. 18, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team held off a second half rally to overcome Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) 88-84 on Thursday night.
Three Eagles combined for 70 of the 88 points scored in Thursday night's game with Jason Taylor leading the bunch with a massive 35 points.
18 of Taylor's points came from the first half where the Eagles never trailed and broke away to a 20-point lead in the last 30 seconds of the half.
Just six minutes into the game, the Eagles led 17-6 and held at least a nine-point margin the remainder of the half while maintaining a double digit lead the majority of the time. The Eagles shot 53 percent from the field and 47 percent from behind the arc during the period.
The Cavaliers returned from the locker room ready to play and stormed back against the Eagles cutting down their 18-point lead at the half.
Late in the game, the SGU men gave the Eagles a scare coming within two points. The OC men held steady, however, and pulled out an 88-84 victory over the Cavaliers beating them for the second time this week.
In addition to his 35 points, Taylor continued his typical double-double play grabbing 14 rebounds.
Starting guard, Jeff Crocker, and swingman, Chad Endres, combined for another 35 points scoring 20 and 15 points, respectively. Crocker passed out five assists in the process while Endres tallied 5 boards.
The Eagles now advance to a 20-7 overall record and remain at 12-7 for conference play.
The OC men will host Oklahoma Baptist University in the Eagles' Nest on Saturday night at 8 p.m. after the women's game at 6.
