LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 29, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian went 3-1 at the Lubbock Christian Invitational this weekend. The Lady Eagles picked up wins over Lubbock Christian (3-2), Houston-Victoria (3-0) and Friends (Kan.) (8-1) at the event.

The wins moved the Lady Eagles to 7-6 on the season

OC beat Lubbock Christian 3-2 in the first game on Friday.

In the day's second game, Linzi Farris' complete-game shutout helped the Lady Eagles to a 3-0 win over Houston-Victoria (Texas).

The wins improved OC's overall record to 7-6.

Freshman Caitlin Matthies (3-1) picked up the win vs. LCU after going all seven innings and allowing just two runs on seven hits.

Matthies and LCU's Marissa Gonzalez did not budge in the first five innings and sent the game to the sixth inning tied at 0-0.

That's when OC got on the board after Tiffany Sherman and Christin Dobbs opened the inning with base hits. Dobbs reached on a bunt single.

Then with one out, Tracy Washam singled home Sherman for the game's first score.

The next batter, Amy Urbanovsky, brought home Dobbs to give the Lady Eagles a 2-0 edge.

The Lady Chaps picked up a run in the home half when Ginalee Davis homered.

But Sandra Darmstadt opened the seventh with her second long ball of the season to give OC a 3-1 cushion.

A seventh-inning Honda Rodriguez homer went for not, as Matthies got Raquel Hawkins to ground out to short to end the game.

Darmstadt (2-for-3), Sherman (2-for-3) and Washam (2-for-4) each had two-hit games for the Lady Eagles.

LCU fell to 5-2 overall. The Lady Chaps upset No. 1 Oklahoma City earlier in the season.

The star of game two was Farris (2-3) and her four-strikeout, five-hit shutout of Houston-Victoria. The win avenged OC's Feb. 22 loss to UHV at the Cowtown Classic.

The Lady Eagles cashed in a game-opening Dobbs single when Rachel Smith singled the centerfielder home to make it 1-0.

OC pushed another run across in the second when Dobbs laced a double into the right-centerfield gap that plated Sherman.

Finally a third run came in the fourth thanks to a Washam single that sent Dobbs home and gave the Lady Eagles a 3-0 edge.

Farris erased a seventh-inning, two-out triple by Amber Scott on a game-ending grounder to short by Curby Ryan. The easy 6-to-3 putout secured the fifth shutout of Farris' career.

Dobbs was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in game two. The sophomore tallied a 4-for-8 day at the plate.

Day two of the event began with a rematch between OC and LCU.

The teams traded one-run opening frames before the Lady Chaps plated three in the second to assume a 4-2 lead.

The score was 5-2 when OC rallied to tie the score with a three-run fifth.

Urbanovsky brought home a pair with a two bagger, then touched home herself when Smith singled to knot the game at 5-5.

LCU answered right back with three runs of its own in the home half.

Washam homered to left to make it 10-7 in the seventh inning, but the Lady Eagles comeback bid fell short.

Dobbs (2-for-3), Urbanovsky (2-for-4) and Smith (2-for-4) each had two-hit games for OC. Urbanovsky and Smith each recorded two RBI's.

OC cruised in the final game of the invitational, beating Friends 8-1.

The Lady Falcons led 1-0 after an inning of play, but Urbanovsky scored on an Allissa Hejl groundout to tie it at 1-1.

After two runs in the fourth inning, OC plated four in the fifth to take full control.

All four runs came on Deidre Chatigny's grand slam. The round-tripper was the first of Chatigny's collegiate career.

Another insurance run in the seventh sent the Lady Eagles to the easy seven-run win.

Natalie Pyle (2-0) got the win after going five innings and allowing just one run on four hits.

No Lady Eagles had multi-hit games, but six players recorded one hit. Chatigny was 1-for-3 with four RBI's.
