Freshman shortstop Tracy Washam went 4-for-7 with three RBIs to lead the Oklahoma Christian softball team to a pair of victories over Newman (Kansas) University here April 8.
Game one of the doubleheader was a classic pitcher's duel with OC scoring the game's only run in the final inning to win 1-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, Washam reached on an infield single, then advanced to third on a stolen base and wild throw. Angie Plowman then singled to left, easily scoring Washam and lifting OC to the win.
Erin Bryan (3-3) earned the victory, pitching seven innings and holding Newman to just four hits.
In game two, the Lady Eagles again blanked the Lady Jets by a 5-0 score. Linzi Farris (6-12) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when a pair of doubles from Morgan Clemmons and Allissa Harper produced a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles added another run in the fifth and completed the 5-0 win with three in the sixth, highlighted by a Washam triple that scored Clemmons and Lindsey Edmondson.
"We had outstanding pitching and defense today. We also got some timely hits when we really needed them. Newman is a very good offensive team so getting two shutouts is a great accomplishment." OC head coach Tom Heath said.
The Lady Eagles (14-20) will next be in action Tuesday, April 11 at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.
