OC holds off Wayland Baptist

Box score

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 14, 2009) – Jason Taylor, Jeff Crocker and David Jackson all scored in double figures to lead Oklahoma Christian to its second-straight win, a 70-59 triumph over pesky Wayland Baptist (Texas) Saturday.

The Eagles led from start to finish to improve to 11-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 18-8 overall. WBU fell to 6-12 and 14-12.

OC jumped on top early thanks to hot shooting from Crocker, who posted nine early points to give the Eagles an 11-6 lead.

WBU came back and tied the game at the 12:47 mark, but the Eagles responded with six unanswered points from Michael Hill and Jason Taylor to jump back in front, 23-17.

Despite cold shooting and being outrebounded by double digits in the first half, the Eagles took a 34-28 lead into halftime.

OC's cold shooting didn't carry into the second half as Jackson, Kyle Tefft and Jon Jonsson all hit from behind the arc to give the Eagles a 45-35 lead with 18:41 left.

Taylor took over at the 12-minute mark, scoring OC's next 10 points and keeping WBU at bay.

But Wayland hung tough, cutting the lead to one point on four occasions down the stretch. Crocker provided the backbreaker, swishing a 30-footer at the shot clock buzzer with just over a minute left to give OC a 65-59 edge. OC put the game away at the free-throw line in the final minute.

Taylor, coming off a 41-point performance against Lubbock Christian (Texas) Thursday, scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Eagles. Crocker pitched in with 13 points and nine assists. Jackson also got into double figures with 10 points on the day.

The Eagles return to action this Thursday on the road against the Science and Arts (Okla.). The men's game tips at 8 p.m. after the 6 p.m. women's game.
