Eagles cruise past Texas College

Box Score

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 16, 2007) - Oklahoma Christian got 24 points apiece from Jason Taylor and Kyle Tefft on the way to a 76-65 win over Texas College on Friday night. The win moved OC to 3-2 on the season.

The 24 points set a career high for Tefft. The junior also nabbed seven steals and six rebounds on the night. Taylor picked up his second double-double of the year with 11 rebounds to go with his 24 points.

"Kyle Tefft and Jason Taylor were just outstanding," OC head coach Dan Hays. "They carried us tonight, but this was a great team effort as well."

OC did not trail over the game's opening 17 minutes. The Eagles built the head to 23-12 when Tefft buried a three-pointer off a penetrating pass from Marlon Word.

After Tefft again scored on a baseline drive, the Steers answered with a 12-0 run that cut the lead to 25-24. TC took its only lead of the contest at 29-28 with 3:15 left when Omar Khanani hit a three-pointer.

But OC closed the stanza on a 9-2 run. Tefft put an exclamation point on the rally with a halftime buzzer-beating jumper. The Eagles led 37-31 at the break.

OC exploded out of the gate in the second half on a 12-2 run in the opening four minutes. The Eagles extended the lead to 61-41 at the 10:40 mark off a Taylor basket.

The Steers narrowed the lead to 10 before David Jackson canned a deep three-pointer with 3:49 left. OC made 6-of-6 charity tosses in the final 1:33 to seal the win. The Eagles finished the night 21-of-25 from the foul line en route to the 76-65 victory.

OC had 19 steals in the game to the Steers' eight. Jackson had nine points while Jeff Crocker added nine points and eight assists.

"Defense was the key to this win," Hays said. "We were able to keep them out of their rhythm. I'm really proud of the guys. We need to come out and get the same type of effort tomorrow night."

The Eagles play NCAA Division II Southeastern Oklahoma State tomorrow at 8 p.m. The Savage Storm lost 84-69 to Mid-America Christian Friday in game one of the Sleep Inn Classic.
