FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 29, 2008) – Jason Taylor scored 25 points and Jeff Crocker added a career-high 22 as Oklahoma Christian University routed Paul Quinn College (Texas) 81-53 Saturday in the Texas Shootout.
Oklahoma Christian faced an early 15-5 deficit, but rallied behind four points from Michael Hill and three-pointers by Crocker and Taylor to tie the game at 15.
The game was tied at 20 when back-to-back three-pointers by Crocker gave the Eagles the lead for good.
OC led 30-25 at halftime and quickly took control in the second half as Taylor scored eight straight points to push the margin to 37-25.
PQC twice pulled back within nine points, but the three-pointers came in bunches as the Eagles went up 61-40. In one stretch, Crocker nailed a three, Taylor netted a conventional three-point play followed by a David Jackson trey, then Crocker hit two more long-range bombs to put the game out of reach.
The Eagles led by as many as 30 points down the stretch as they improved to 6-1 on the season.
Taylor and Crocker both had double-doubles – Taylor grabbed 10 rebounds while Crocker dished out 10 assists. Jackson also scored in double figures with 12 points while Kyle Tefft nabbed five of OC's 10 steals.
Rashad Norman scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Tigers.
Oklahoma Christian now will return home to prepare for Thursday's key Sooner Athletic Conference battle against Oklahoma Baptist. The women's game tips off at 6 p.m. with the men's game starting at 8 p.m. Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles are 1-0 in conference play after last Monday's wins over Northwestern Oklahoma State.
