OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 28, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian set a season-high with 94 points in a 94-64 route of Mid-America (Okla.) Thursday night at the Eagles' Nest. The win gave OC a 7-1 record in February.
David Jackson scored a career-high 23 points in the win. The Tulsa, Okla., native was 5-of-9 from three-point range.
Eight quick points on treys by Jeff Crocker and Kyle Tefft, and a two from Jason Taylor, put OC up 14-11 at the 12:25 point of the first stanza on Thursday.
The action stayed tight through the next four-plus minutes. Two lead changes and a tie ensued before Jackson netted a triple to make it 26-22 with 7:47 until the break.
The long-range delivery ignited an 18-0 Eagle run that put the game on ice.
Sam Stephens sunk a long two-pointer the next time down, then Kyle Tefft dropped a pair of free throws to make it 30-22 and seven unanswered points.
Another Jackson three-pointer and a Taylor inbounds-slam upped OC's edge to 35-22 by the 4:37 point.
Crocker snagged a rebound and hurried to the other end where he buried a transition jumper at 2:20 to cap the jaunt and give the Eagles a demanding 41-22 edge.
OC took a 41-26 lead to intermission.
It took the Eagles just under four minutes to push their lead to 20 points.
Taylor took a long transition pass from Crocker and banked home two while being fouled. The SAC's leading scorer made the free throw and gave OC a 58-38 lead with 16:01 left.
The lead went to 65-40 when Tefft nabbed a MACU pass attempt, pushed the ball the length of the court, and found a wide open Chad Endres, who chimed in from long distance at the 13:36 point.
Jackson sunk a 15-foot jumper to make it a 30-point lead at 74-44 with 10:02 left.
The game quickly turned into a bench-clearing rout, as all 15 Eagles saw game action. Nine players scored as OC cruised to the 30-point win.
Taylor followed Jackson with 22 points and five rebounds. Crocker (14 points) and Tefft (10 points) both reached double-figures for the Eagles.
OC has just one day to prepare for a Saturday showdown with No. 9 Oklahoma City. OC and OCU square off at Abe Lemons Arena at 8 p.m. in the annual "Backyard Brawl" presented by The Oklahoman and Bank of America.
