OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 22, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian hit seven three-pointers in a 30-7 second-half run that gave the Eagles a 74-56 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday.
The Eagles totaled 10 treys in the second half and 14 for the game as they improved to 4-6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 7-10 overall. Northwestern, despite opening the contest on a 16-2 run, fell to 5-5 and 9-6.
Kyle Tefft led Oklahoma Christian with 21 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. He also tallied six rebounds, six assists, three blocked shots and three steals.
David Jackson, who hit four treys in the game-changing run that turned a 37-33 deficit into a 63-44 lead, scored a career-high 19 points to go with six assists. He made 5-of-10 three-pointers in the game as the Eagles shot 44 percent (14-of-32) as a team.
"You shoot it like that, it's easy," Tefft said. "It's hard to describe. You could tell we were so relaxed. The goal looked like a hula hoop to all of us. It's the most fun I've had at an OC basketball game and I've been here a while."
The Eagles trailed 31-26 at halftime, but threes by Tefft and Jackson helped chip into the lead, then Jeff Crocker nailed a long-distance three-pointer to give OC its first lead at 41-39 with 14:57 left.
Another Tefft trey set the table for three-straight Jackson three-pointers that pushed the lead to 57-44. A traditional three-point play by Tefft and another Crocker trey capped the 30-7 run.
But the Eagles weren't done. Two more Tefft three-pointers gave OC a pair of 20-point leads down the stretch on the way to the 18-point win.
In sweeping two games from the Rangers this year, OC outscored NWOSU 91-51 combined in the second half of play, including a 48-25 margin Tuesday.
Taylor (15 points) and Crocker (11 points) joined Tefft and Jackson in double figures for the Eagles.
Northwestern's Shane Hansen, who made 5-of-10 three-pointers for a team-high 15 points, achieved a personal milestone by eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for his career.
The Eagles return to action at home Thursday night against No. 12 Southern Nazarene (Okla.). The game tips off at 8 p.m. following the 6 p.m. women's game.
