MOORE, Okla. (Feb. 26, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian beat Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College 15-7 and 6-3 on Tuesday. The wins, OC's third and fourth straight, ran the Eagles' overall record to 5-5-1.
Hillsdale Baptist jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first inning of game one.
But OC outscored HBC 14-1 from there to earn the easy eight-run win.
The Eagles scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to go up 10-6.
Tyler Gipson drove in Ray Long to start the rally in the third inning. Then Jay White ripped a two-RBI double to left field that scored Josh Balch and Jeff Davis.
Davis brought two more runs across with a homer to left centerfield in the fourth. The long ball plated Jordan Price and gave OC a 7-6 lead.
After the three-spot in the fifth, OC put the game away with five runs in the seventh.
Austin Reid started the inning with a double to center. Price then singled home Reid and came home himself on a Long two-bagger.
More RBI hits from Davis and Balch put the game on ice.
After a shaky start, Derek James (1-0) settled in to earn his first win of the season. The Edmond, Okla., native struck out six over seven innings of work.
Long (3-for-4), Davis (3-for-5) and Chance Nichols (3-for-4) each had three knocks in the win. Davis had a game-high four RBI's.
Game two saw OC fall behind again in the first inning, only to recover for the win.
Trailing 1-0 after three innings, the Eagles scored twice in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Nichols started the inning with an opposite-field home run to right that knotted the game at 1-1. Price then drove in Chris Miller to make it a 2-1 Eagle lead.
OC plated four more runs in the sixth to put the game in hand.
Long roped a double to left field to score Price and Miller, then Gipson singled home Long to give the Eagles' a 5-1 cushion. Nichols final hit of a 3-for-4 game plated Gipson and brought the tally to 6-1.
Two HBC runs in the bottom of the inning were all for not, as OC earned the 6-3 victory.
John Ihle (1-0), making his first appearance of the season, retired HBC in order in all but the first and seventh frames. The sophomore picked up the win with a four-hit, six-strikeout performance.
Nichols was 6-for-8 on the day to up his season average to .440. The Oklahoma City native drove in a pair of runs in game two.
Long notched a 5-for-8 afternoon with four RBI's, two doubles and a steal.
Johns had a 3-for-4 effort in game two while Miller was 2-for-4.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday in a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader vs. Science and Arts (Okla.) at 2 p.m. at Dobson Field.
