CEDAR HILL, Texas (March 31, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian University baseball team fell 8-0 and 19-3 in a non-conference doubleheader at Northwood University (Texas) on Tuesday.
The Eagles have now lost four games in a row to go to 13-16 on the season. Oklahoma Christian hits the road again on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Sterling College (Kan.).
OC had trouble getting going offensively in the opener with only four hits. Northwood led 2-0 after one inning, and the Knights added insurance runs in every inning but the second to pick up the win.
Eagle shortstop Jordan Price went 1-for-4 with a double and Ray Long (1-for-3), Tyler Gipson (1-for-2) and Cody Carpenter (1-for-3) each had singles.
OC starting pitcher Ryan Morris (4-4) hurled five innings of seven-run baseball. The sophomore fanned six and walked three in the losing effort. Riley Jones entered in the sixth inning and gave up one run and struck out two.
The Eagles swung the bats batter in the second game, and OC led 2-0 after the first half-inning. But Northwood put up five, six and seven runs in the second, third and fourth innings respectively to get a five-inning run-rule.
Quaid Johns singled to centerfield to plate Justin Ebert and Gipson for both first-inning runs. The Eagles scored again in the second frame when Jay White clobbered a leadoff double and scored on a Ryan Harper groundout.
The Eagles managed six hits in the second game behind single-hit outputs from six players. Johns was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Price (1-for-2), Ebert (1-for-2), Gipson (1-for-3, 2B), White (1-for-2, 2B) and Josh Balch (1-for-2) each had knocks.
Tyler Akins (1-2) suffered the loss in the nightcap after going 1.1 innings and surrendering five runs on four hits.
