PLAINVIEW, Texas (Jan. 23, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team fell 71-53 to Wayland Baptist University on Saturday afternoon for their second loss in a row.
The Eagles propelled themselves out to an 8-0 lead early in the game and led for the majority of the first period. The Eagles led 27-26 with 2:53 left in the period before Wayland's Tommie Sanders hit the last basket of the half with 2:26 remaining to put the Pioneers ahead by one.
During the second half, the Eagles never regained the lead. The Pioneers opened up the half with a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 13.
Late in the half, the Pioneers expanded their lead to 21 points before ending the game ahead by 18 at 71-53.
The Eagles hit 19 of 51 shots to shoot 37 percent from the field.
David Jackson led the Eagle's scoring with 12 points with nine points coming from behind the arc.
Andre Vaughn and Chad Endres tallied 10 points each while Jason Taylor grabbed 11 boards for the Eagles.
The loss leaves the Eagles at 16-4 overall and 8-4 for conference play.
The Eagles will head to Shawnee on Thursday to play Oklahoma Baptist University on the road for their next game. The men will tip off at 8 p.m. following the women's game at 6 p.m.
