OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 4, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team held off the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Thursday night to break a three game losing streak with the 68-65 victory.
The first half of the game went back and forth through seven lead changes and four ties. Jason Taylor held as a steady option throughout the half scoring 17 points while Chad Endres tallied another 10 to keep the Eagles on their feet.
With just 12 seconds left in the half, USAO's Phillip Harris scored a three pointer to tie up the game. In turn, after inbounding, OC's Andre Vaughn received the ball behind the arc and released as the buzzer sounded to drain a three pointer to put the Eagles up by three at 39-36 going into halftime.
The second half topped the first with 14 more lead changes and seven more ties. Both teams scored 29 points during the period.
Vaughn carried the Eagles through the second half scoring 12 points to total 20 for the night. With 3:25 left in the half, the Eagles sat down by one point. As both defenses kicked into high gear, another point was not scored until two minutes later when Vaughn scored to put the Eagles up by one.
With 25 seconds left, Vaughn scored another basket to seal the deal for the Eagles with a 68-65 victory and broke their three game losing streak.
Taylor finished out the game with 22 points and 10 rebounds to tally another double-double to the season. Endres totaled 13 for the night with 10 rebounds as well.
Izea Lovejoy added another seven points to the Eagles' total including a crowd raising alley-oop from David Jackson. Jeff Crocker kept the offense moving making 10 assists for the night.
The No. 16 Eagles improved their record to 17-5 while holding a 9-5 record for conference play.
The Eagles will play cross-town rivals Southern Nazarene University on Saturday in Bethany at 8 p.m. following the women's game at 6 p.m.
