OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb, 13, 2010) – Oklahoma Christian University baseball finally got underway at Dobson Field on Saturday, as the Eagles split a double header with York College, winning the first game 9-8 in extra innings and dropping game two 9-3.
Game One
The Eagles got on the board early in their home opener, taking advantage of York's early pitching struggles. After walking the bases loaded, Dustin Andrews broke the gates open with a three run double to right field. Chance Nichols capped off the inning, driving in Andrews on a sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead.
After two scoreless innings from the Eagles' starting pitcher, Ryan Morris, York answered with a four run inning of their own to tie the score 4-4.
An inning later York chased Morris from the game and scored another three runs to take a commanding 7-4 lead.
The Eagles battled back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Andrews came up big again, hitting a three run blast to right field and tying the score at 7-7.
In the bottom of the sixth the Eagles regained the lead. Heath Steele led off the inning with a triple, and was driven in by Dillon Andrews to give the Eagles the lead at 8-7.
The lead did not last long. With two outs, York managed to push a run across and tie the game at 8-8.
After two and a half scoreless extra innings, the Eagles found themselves with the bases loaded and no outs. This after a single from Chris Miller, a double from David Garner and an intentional walk issued to Quaid Johns. Josh Balch followed with a single to center field to drive in the winning run and give the Eagles their first win of the season.
Dustin Andrews led the way offensively for the Eagles, going 2-5 with two hits and six RBIs. Dillon Andrews also pitched in going 3-4 with two RBIs and bringing in two runs.
Morris threw 3.1 innings giving five hits and striking out three. Taylor Parcus captured the win, throwing three scoreless extra innings against York.
Game 2
The Eagles found themselves in an early hole after York scored 5 runs in the first two innings off of Eagles pitcher Kennedy Winn.
Oklahoma Christian got on the board in the bottom of the second when Dillon Andrews drew a walk to bring in Zac Coshow.
York scored four more runs, three in the fifth and one in sixth, to make the score 9-1.
Despite solo homeruns in the in sixth and seventh innings from Steele and Justin Ebert, the Eagles could not manage a comeback, losing 9-3.
Steele led the way for the Eagles at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. Ebert also chipped in going 2-4 with an RBI.
Winn pitched four innings, giving up seven runs, but also recorded seven strikeouts. Conner Williams pitched the final 1.2 innings of the game and recorded five strikeouts for the Eagles.
The Eagles will return to action on Feb. 15 for a home doubleheader against Peru State at 2 p.m.
