LUBBOCK, Texas (March 3, 2012) – No. 7 Lubbock Christian (Texas) extended its NAIA-record home winning streak to 53 games, sweeping No. 25 Oklahoma Christian 11-3 and 6-5 at PlainsCapital Park on Saturday afternoon.
Lubbock Christian (13-0, 4-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) received four home runs in the doubleheader from Kim Frazier, who hadn't had a homer all season before Saturday, and limited the Lady Eagles to 11 total hits in the two softball games.
The Chaparrals jumped on OC's first-game starter, Ashley Paxton, for 16 hits. OC (10-3, 3-3) led 3-2 after Davee Croy's two-run home run in the top of the third, but the Chaparrals took the lead in the bottom of the inning, as Frazier hit a solo home run and Amanda Longorio added an RBI double.
Lubbock Christian scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and Brittany Kemp's bases-loaded triple with nobody out put the Chaparrals ahead 11-3 and ended the game via the run rule.
Paxton (3-2) took the loss while Lubbock Christian's Sarah Mendez (5-0) limited the Lady Eagles to four hits and struck out nine batters.
In the second game, OC couldn't stop Frazier, who hit three solo home runs off starter Kimberly Cusher (0-1).
Frazier's first homer of the game came as part of a three-run first-inning Lubbock Christian outburst. Kayla Jennings' 2-run homer – her sixth longball of the season – in the top of the third pulled OC into a 3-3 tie, but Frazier homered for the Chaparrals in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-3.
An RBI single by OC's Monique Elliot in the top of the fourth again tied the game, but Lubbock Christian took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, on home runs by Andrea Argee and Frazier.
Longorio (5-0) threw five innings for Lubbock Christian, allowing seven hits, before Mendez pitched two innings of no-hit relief to record her first save of the season.
