Northwestern Oklahoma drops Lady Eagles

ALVA, Okla. (April 8, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team struggled to get a foothold against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday as they lost a tiebreaker for a game earlier this season and both double header games against the Lady Rangers.

OC and Northwestern Oklahoma tied 8-8 in an unfinished game at home earlier this season and completed the suspended match to start things off. The Lady Rangers tallied the winning run in what would be the ninth inning to claim the tiebreaker.

Game 1

Starting off the first inning, the Lady Eagles took the lead scoring two runs from a DaVee Croy home run that also sent in Christin Dobbs.

In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Rangers retaliated with five runs to gain a lead they did not give up.

The Lady Eagles scored two more runs in the second inning to come within one score of NWOSU. The first score came from a Taylor Renshaw homer and the second from Ashley Calles on a first base error.

The Lady Rangers put up an additional run in the bottom of the second to make the score 6-4 heading into the third. Following a scoreless inning, NWOSU utilized another five run inning to pull away from the Lady Eagles making the score 11-4.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Rangers put up a final run to end the game early with a run rule, as the Lady Eagles were unable to score.

Dobbs led the Lady Eagles' batting going 2-for-3 with a run. Croy followed going 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

Leigh Leonard suffered the loss for the Lady Eagles, but only earned one run over 4.2 innings of pitching as OC registered seven errors during the game.

Game 2

The Lady Eagles found less success in the second match as they gave up 17 runs to the four they scored.

OC started off the first inning with three runs to get things rolling, but such seemed trivial when they gave up a whopping 12 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Dobbs was the first to score for the Lady Eagles as she made it home from an Amber Canady single. Canady made her way home three batters later when Amy Urbanovsky made a base hit on a fielder's choice. Kayla Jennings was the last to make it home for the Eagles on a single by Calles.

Down 12-3 heading into the second, the Lady Eagles fell danger to a run rule when the Lady Rangers tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Eagles scored one additional run in the fourth inning in an effort to delay a run rule but it did not matter when the Lady Rangers responded with four more of their own.

The second game ended early after the top of the fifth inning as well while the Lady Eagles suffered a 17-4 defeat.

Dobbs again excelled at the plate hitting an identical 2-for-3 and scoring one run. Calles was a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and an RBI.

The losses, including the tiebreaker, leave the Lady Eagles at 17-20 overall and 7-13 for conference play.

The Lady Eagles will host Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) on Saturday in a double header starting at 1 p.m.
