OKLAHOMA CITY (March 1, 2012) – Kayla Jennings and Davee Croy each had five RBIs and Ashley Paxton and Lindsy Moore each pitched a complete game as No. 25-ranked Oklahoma Christian swept Northwestern Oklahoma State 10-3 and 11-0 on Thursday afternoon.
OC (10-1, 3-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) had 20 hits in the two games and never trailed against Northwestern (3-3, 0-2). Jennings hit a pair of two-run home runs in the opener while Croy went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the second game.
"Today was an all-around great day for us," OC assistant coach Jessica Hauf said. "Our defense played extremely well with only one error on the day, and offensively we got our bats going and never stopped."
In the opener, Jennings staked the Lady Eagles to an early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. The Rangers tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth on Jasmine Braxton's RBI single, but OC answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, three of those on a home run by Kala Ratliff off Northwestern starter Kellie Mason.
Northwestern's Megan Bourdon homered in the top of the sixth to make it 6-3 but the Lady Eagles again had a reply, scoring four more times, as Croy had a two-run single and Jennings hit her fifth home run of the season.
Mason allowed eight hits, walked six and struck out five in five innings for the Rangers, while Paxton (3-1) scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out three.
Courtney Starr and Croy each had a two-run double in the second inning of the second game, putting OC ahead 4-0. The Lady Eagles tacked on another run in the third and six more in the fourth, as 12 batters came to the plate. Michelle Miller hit a two-run single during the outburst.
Northwestern managed only two hits off Moore (4-0) and the game ended via the run rule after five innings. Mason (2-2) took the pitching loss for the Rangers.
Croy, Miller, Megan Webb and Starr each had two hits in the second game for OC, which will visit No. 7-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday in a key early season SAC matchup.
"Today we showed how well we are capable of hitting the ball and we were also able to capitalize on errors made by Northwestern," Hauf said. "Hopefully we can carry the intensity we had today in to our next doubleheader at Lubbock this weekend."
