Reinke, Troutman, White star as Eagles roll past St. Gregory's 73-49

Brandon Troutman (above) teamed with Devan White to limit the top scorer for St. Gregory's, Fayzon Richey, to 11 points as OC rolled to a 73-49 win.

SHAWNEE, Okla. (Dec. 1, 2011) – Will Reinke scored 28 points – one off his career high – and added 12 rebounds as Oklahoma Christian cruised to a 73-49 win over St. Gregory's on Thursday night at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse.

The 6-foot-10 Reinke proved nearly unstoppable inside, going 10-of-14 from the field and making all eight of his free-throw attempts. He scored 16 first-half points to stake OC (5-2, 1-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) to a 36-24 halftime lead, then had eight more during a 15-2 spurt early in the second half that effectively put the game away for the Eagles.

No one besides Reinke scored in double figures, but OC outrebounded the Cavaliers 52-27 and limited them to 31.5-percent shooting.

"Our depth showed up tonight," OC head coach Dan Hays said. "We need to enjoy this. St. Gregory's is a much-improved team and I thought our guys handled it well. I thought we really looked good opening things up at the end of the first half. We got a little slow start in the second half, and then we came back and executed."

OC guards Devan White and Brandon Troutman combined to limit the Cavaliers' top player, Fayzon Richey, to 11 points. Richey scored 38 points in an 83-75 win over OC last season in Shawnee.

"They're hard to guard," Hays said. "The job Devan White and Brandon Troutman did on Richey was just tremendous."

St. Gregory's (3-3, 0-1) led 15-13 in the early minutes before consecutive buckets by Reinke gave the Eagles a lead they'd never relinquish. Troutman, Derek Johnson and Willie Harper each hit a 3-pointer to help OC extend its lead.

The Cavaliers pulled within 28-24 on a traditional three-point play by Richey, but OC scored the final eight points of the half – six of those by Reinke. He ended the half with a ferocious block of a shot by the Cavaliers' Brandon Jackson.

St. Gregory's trailed 40-31 early in the second half after a three-point play by Jackson, but Reinke hit two free throws, blocked a shot by Brock Vorwald, hit two more free throws, then dunked off an assist by White to make it 46-31.

OC eventually pushed the lead to 55-33 on a free throw by Eric Randall. The Eagles led by as many as 30 points in the late stages.

Kyler Patterson led St. Gregory's with 12 points but went 2-of-10 from the field.

OC will host No. 7-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 3 p.m.
