OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 24, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team ran into little problem as they controlled the hardwood in the Nest on Thursday night taking an 80-57 victory over Saint Gregory's University (Okla.).
The Eagles never trailed against the Cavaliers after Jeff Crocker drained a three for the first basket of the game. OC went back and forth with the SGU men for several minutes before the Eagles broke to an 11-point lead with 8:21 left until the half.
Following a couple exchanges of baskets, the Eagles put up an 8-1 run to create a 16-point margin over the Cavaliers with 5:01 left on the clock.
The SGU men cut the lead down to 12 twice, but the Eagles never allowed them any closer and pushed to a 17-point lead at 41-24 with 22 seconds till the half. A final last second basket from SGU left the OC gap at 15 heading into halftime.
As the second half got underway, the Cavaliers started to hack away at the Eagle margin getting it down to nine points less than four minutes in.
The Eagles quickly responded jumping the lead back to 15 and minute and a half later. Throughout the remainder of the period, OC never allowed the Cavaliers within the nine-point margin.
With 8:25 still to play, the Cavaliers trailed once again by nine points before the Eagles started a 14-2 run to take a 21-point lead with 3:09 left on the clock.
With the game out of reach for SGU, the Cavaliers recorded one final basket before the Eagles put up two more to finish the game with a 23-point margin at 80-57.
Crocker led the Eagles for the evening with 16 total points and five assists. Swingmen Andre Vaughn and Chad Endres both made contributions as well with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while each grabbed four rebounds in the process.
Will Reinke helped control things down low with 10 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double performance while Kendre Talley made an impact as well with nine points, four rebounds, and three assists.
With the win, the Eagles improve to a 17-11 season record and to 11-10 for conference play. The OC men will join the women on the road for their final regular season match against Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday. The women's tip-off is scheduled 6 p.m. with the men's to follow at 8 p.m.
