OKLAHOMA CITY (March 30, 2010) - Oklahoma Christian took advantage of windy conditions, recording 22 hits, including six homeruns in nine innings, in a 17-10 victory over Sterling College on Tuesday night.
After giving up an early run in the top of the first, the Eagles wasted no time answering. Jordan Price led off with a first pitch homerun to left field, tying the game at 1-1.
Oklahoma Christian put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Josh Balch doubled to right-center field driving in Dillon Andrews. Price followed with a single to center field to drive in Balch and give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the third inning the Eagles gave up seven runs, but answered with seven of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Dustin Andrews started things off with a lead off homerun to left field. With two outs the Eagles rallied to score six more runs taking advantage of several errors made by Sterling. Taylor Parcus caped the score with a two run homer to left field to drive in Price and give the Eagles a 10-8 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jusin Ebert doubled to left field driving in Quaid Johns, pinch running for Zac Coshow, to extend the Eagles' lead to 11-8. Dillon Andrews and Heath Steele followed with back-to-back homeruns to make the score 13-8.
After giving up two runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Eagles put up an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning when Ebert scored on a Steele single to make the score 14-10.
The Eagles put the game out of reach in the bottom of eighth inning, scoring 3 more runs. After an Ebert double to center field, Steele singled to left center field to drive in Ebert. Balch followed with a two run homer to left field to give the Eagles a 17-10 lead.
Tim Dodd pitched a scoreless final three innings for the Eagles, giving up no hits and recording three strikeouts to help give Oklahoma Christian the 17-10 victory.
Riley Jones got the win for the Eagles, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and recording eight strikeouts.
The hot Eagle offense, which scored 17 runs on 22 hits, was led by Balch who was 4-for-5 at the plate with five RBI. Steele followed, going 3-for-5 with four RBI. Price was 3-for-6 with three RBI and Parcus added two additional RBI.
Now at an even 13-13, Oklahoma Christian will return to action on March 1 at 7 p.m. when they will begin a three game series with Oklahoma City University.
