No. 14 Softball Uses 17-Hit Game-Two Showing to Split with No. 5 Lady Buffs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CANYON, Texas - Three days removed from splitting a doubleheader on the road at No. 13 Rogers State, Oklahoma Christian did the same with No. 5 West Texas A&M, dropping game one, 15-7, before prevailing in the second contest, 11-5, for its fourth NFCA top-15 win of 2026.

In victory, the maroon-and-gray strung together a season-high 17 hits while matching its most hits in a single game since 2023, with 17 hits being the most hits West Texas A&M has allowed since 2021. Four Eagles saw three hits and six claimed multiple base-knocks.

True freshman Ella Resendiz picked up her second collegiate win with a complete-game effort against the Lady Buffs in game two, allowing five runs on six hits to the nationally-ranked No. 5 team while striking out five batters.

For the day's twin bill, Kadence Brewster led the charge at the plate, going 5-for-8 with four RBI and three runs scored. Marti Yaerger, after a slow start to the year where she had only registered three hits coming into today, exploded for a 5-for7 day with four RBI and two runs scored. Kallie Rupp complimented the duo with a 4-for-5 doubleheader with three runs and three RBI.

No. 14 Oklahoma Christian (11-3, 3-1 LSC) will continue heading west where they will meet Eastern New Mexico for a doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. MT / 2 p.m. CT.

Game One: No. 5 West Texas A&M 15, No. 14 Oklahoma Christian 7 (6 inn.)
West Texas A&M got on the board with one swing of the bat, using a three-run home run in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 lead. Oklahoma Christian immediately responded as a Yaerger lead-off single yielded a two-run top of the third. The Lady Buffs responded in turn, however, with a three-spot in the home-half of the frame to make it 5-2.

As the rest of the afternoon went, every time OC battled back, even taking a brief lead following a four-run fourth, WT answered with a crooked number. After holding West Texas scoreless in the fifth for the first time since the first inning, the Eagles trailed just two runs as play moved into the sixth, 9-7.

Following a scoreless top of the sixth, the top-5 rated Lady Buffs broke through with seven runs to finish the game early and take the 1-0 lead in the day's doubleheader, 15-7.

Game Two: No. 14 Oklahoma Christian 11, No. 5 West Texas A&M 5
Resendiz allowed four of her five runs in the first two innings before holding West Texas A&M to just one run over the final five frames. The theme early on reflected that of game one, with West Texas A&M jumping out to a 2-0 lead before OC tied it up one inning later only to have WT re-establish a two-run lead in the bottom of the second, 4-2.

From that point on, Resendiz allowed just four more hits, all of which came in two innings. Still trailing 4-2 in the fifth, OC saw its biggest inning of the day with six runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-out, three-RBI double from Yaerger that extended a one-run lead to four runs, 8-4.

West Texas A&M was able to get one run back in the sixth - its first run since the second frame - before the Eagles added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh. sparked by a lead-off single from Yaerger to cap off her big day.
