Shawnee, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian track and field competed at the 2025 OBU Invitational as the Eagles opened their outdoor track and field campaign.
Women
Starting off the meet Friday night, the woman's 1500m runners set the tone for the rest of the weekend with
Kinley Kite getting her first of two victories over the weekend. Kite crossed the line in 4:38.83 recording a decisive victory.
Kristen Kirk and
Lauren Kirk also put forth top five finishes with their fourth and fifth places respectively with Kristen finishing in 4:52.83 and Lauren finishing in 4:52.85.
Kite Followed up her Friday night victory with a victory in the 800m on Saturday finishing in 2:17.44 with
Lauren Kirk finishing in sixth with a time of 2:27.98.
Caroline Karr rounded out Friday evening for the Eagles finishing seventh in the 5000m with a time of 18:27.75.
Saturday welcomed a number of top performances, none more impressive than
Laniyah Curry's school record performance in the Long Jump. Curry recorded a jump of 6.24m (20-5.75) to launch herself to victory. Fellow Eagles
Jamie Morgan and
Mary Loftiss also put forward impressive showings finishing in third and sixth respectively with jumps off 5.76m (18-10.75) and 5.63m (18-5.75). Curry also recorded a top 5 finish Friday night in the triple jump with an effort of 10.70m (35-3.50) which was good enough for sixth place.
The woman's high jump also offered two top 6 efforts with
Laila Ahmed finishing in second with a jump of 1.70m (5-7.00) and
Emory Glavan finishing in sixth with a jump of 1.55m (5-1.00).
The woman's 4x100 and
Katie Bosley in the 400m also recorded second place overall finishes. The 4x100 finishing in a time of 48.05 and
Katie Bosley running 57.47 in the 400 which was good enough for a career best time.
Jamie Morgan finished sixth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:08.71.
Men
Similar to the women, it was the men's long jumpers who set the tone for the Eagles with three men finishing in the top-5.
Alex Samples finished second with a jump of 7.07m (23-2.25), besting
Arlen Taplin who finished third with a jump of 7.07m (23-2.25) but only fell behind on count back.
Stacy Smith finished in fifth place with a jump of 6.94 (22-9.25)
In the men's discuss,
Ty Morrison finished in third place with a throw of 41.83m (137-3.00) while Phillip Lawrence placed seventh with a throw of 39.19m (128-7.00).
Samples and Smith followed up their strong showings in the long jump by finishing fourth and eighth, respectively, in the high jump with jumps of 1.90 (6-2.75) and 1.75m (5-9.00) respectively.
In the men's hammer throw, Lawrence finished in fourth place with a throw of 48.78m (160-0.00) while
Solomon Ross finished eighth with a throw of 40.75m (133-1.00).
In the men's javelin on Friday night, Ryan Chacon finished in fifth place with a throw of 49.58m (162-8.00) while Lawrence finished fourth in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.53m (47-8.00).
In the Saturday session of the 800m,
Jack Sydnes and
Carter Hoelzle finished sixth and seventh with times of 2:00.67 and 2:01.17, respectively. This performance followed up Sydnes impressive showing in the 1500m Friday night where he finished second with a time of 4:04.16.
In the 3000m steeplechase,
Blake Morrison finished in sixth place with a time of 10:35.26 for his first ever attempt of the event.

The Eagles will next travel to Norman, Okla. Friday, April 4th for the John Jacob's Invitational at the University of Oklahoma.
