NORMAN, Okla. - True freshman
Laniyah Curry, for the third time this season in as many meets, has set the Oklahoma Christian school record in the long jump while three other jumpers set new personal bests at the 2025 Owen Hewett Invitational held at the University of Oklahoma Friday afternoon.
In the long jump invite, Curry jumped 6.00 meters to set a new school record as the freshman placed fifth, besting four Division I competitors. The Edmond, Okla.
(Edmond Santa Fe HS) native, who is currently sixth in NCAA Division II, has now set the school record in this event in all three meets she has competed in this winter.
In the open division, freshman
Jamie Morgan and sophomore
Mary Loftiss each claimed personal bests with jumps of 5.69 meters and 5.64 meters, respectively, finishing in second and third in their field.
For the men,
Arlen Taplin, yet another freshman for the Eagles, placed 11th in the long jump open division with a personal-best 6.39 meters. In that same field, senior
Alex Samples finished as runner-up with a 6.93 meter jump while
Stacy Smith came in at fifth (6.59m).
Oklahoma Christian will return to Pittsburg State after opening the season there for the Rumble in the Jungle Friday, Jan. 24.
