Eagles Start Final Push in Regular Season by Traveling to Portales, New Mexico

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian (27-16, 22-11) will travel to Portalesl, New Mexico to take on Eastern New Mexico (21-20, 14-19) as both teams begin their final stretch of Lone Star Conference games.

What To Know About The Eagles 

  • Head Coach Shalee Rodriguez is entering her 3rd season at the helm for the Eagles, and coming into this season, Rodriguez held an overall record of 77-32.
  • Last season, the Eagles finished with an overall record of 38-17 and a 29-13 conference record.
  • The Eagles fell short in the Lone Star Conference Championship, losing to UT Tyler 4-3. 
  • In the NCAA South Central Regional championship, OC battled with UT Tyler before the Patriots won to end the season.
  • The Eagles' success at the plate starts with Kadence Brewster leading the way. Brewster is hitting .312 in 141 at-bats, and has recorded 44 hits with 18 RBIs, 2 home runs, and scoring herself 18 times. 
  • Kiley Brewster has been a source of offense for the Eagles in the middle part of the conference. Brewster is holding an average of .301 in 123 at-bats, with 14 RBIs on 37 hits and crossing home plate 13 times herself.
  • Whitney Walde is helping the Eagles in the batter's box and behind the plate, being a critical part to the Eagles defense as the starting catcher. Walde is also hitting a .300 average with 36 hits, 7 doubles and 10 RBIs. 
  • After coming over from basketball, Brooklin Bain has made an impact in the Eagles lineup. Bain has a .274 batting average in 106 at-bats, with 37 hits, 6 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs, and 14 RBIs. 
  • The Eagles have a tandem pitching attack of Jill Dickson and Grace Anderson. Together, they've recorded 176 strikeouts and led the way for a team ERA of 3.21. The Eagles have pitched 10 shutout games and 1 combined no-hitter this season. Dickson has also recorded a no-hitter of her own.  

What To Know About The Greyhounds

  • Amanda Fefel became the head coach for the Greyhounds in the summer of 2021. Fefel has led the Greyhounds to instant success in her tenure.
  • In the 2023 season, the Greyhounds finished with the most wins in a season, with 26 and competed in their first conference tournament since 2001.
  • ENMU are led by Taighen Whitzel and Mikenzey Patterson from the batter's box. Both Whitzel and Patterson find themselves in the top-10 in hitting in the LSC. Whitzel has also recorded an outstanding 54 hits so far this season.
  • The Greyhounds have three hitters accounting for the majority of the team's RBIs. Taighen Whitzel, Alondra Vasquez and Samantha Gutierrez have combined for 121 of the 216 RBIs the Greyhounds have scored this season. 
  • ENMU has seen 22 different Greyhounds make at least one appearance at the plate this season. 
  • The ENMU pitching staff currently has a team ERA of 4.73, with 4 different pitchers making at least 10 appearances in the circle. 
  • Marissa Rodriguez and Emma Southerland have seen the majority of the time for the Greyhounds. They have a combined record of 17-17. 

Last Years Matchup

In the 2023 season, the Eagles and the Greyhounds matched up early in the conference season. ENMU was able to take the series 2-1 in three close games. Now in 2024, the Eagles will look to get revenge against the Greyhounds.
